A BIT ABOUT US
At thePOBots, we’re committed to investing our expertise and resources in our community. Through FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition, we challenge high school students to design and build a new 120+ pound robot each year in 2 months. We’ve been supporting our community members through outreach to schools, local businesses, and global efforts. Each year, we not only build a robot, but we also mentor middle school teams and hold our annual Engineering Awareness Night, bringing STEM to everyone!
WHY
This club is more than just building a robot; it’s about learning new skills, working with others, and having fun while doing it. What makes the POBots special is that the club is run by the students! We work together to build a robot, write award applications, and so much more. There’s something here for everyone! We are incredibly fortunate to have mentors come in, bringing their professional experiences in engineering and technology to help share their knowledge preparing the students for future careers.
About Us
The POBots was first established in 1999 under the leadership of Mr. Frank Saladino at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School in Plainview, New York. Ever since then, our club has grown to become a staple not only in the school district, but throughout the entire community.
Outreach
Community service is a vital aspect of the POBots. In addition to helping kids become science and technology leaders, we strive to create well-rounded contributors to society. We have countless activities to help get kids involved in STEM at an early age, available for download.

The Grant Database helps teams elevate their fundraising efforts. Providing grant and sponsorship applications, fundraising ideas, and resources to improve their program’s budget.
